Had I Not In My Idling

Had I not in my idling
neglected you;
neglected morning carol;
neglected evening requiem;

neglected the unforeseen
whimsy of words,
the nitty-gritty of my
most solemn soul,

sooner could have been
release from bondage,
levee collapsing revelation,
my poems.
