Guitar on His Back
No money he had, just guitar on his back
he took to the roads as the evening turned black
he said no goodbyes to all that he knew
and never looked back to his love that was true
his path followed rivers and fern covered hills
and his eyes looked ahead over fields and mills
he'll take his guitar and let songs pay his way
and he'll look for his fortune what ever they say
so he went through the valley and a town he did stay
and sang for his supper for many a day
but he could not forget of his love left behind
and how true that she was and so loving and kind
so back to the path climbed the fern covered hills
to see if his love would be waiting there still
and when he returned it was not as expected
she'd found a new love, and now felt rejected
so with no money he had, took guitar on his back
and took to the roads but his confidence lacked
no one goodbyes and nothing left that he owned
but kept looking back to his love , to the love, she once shown.
