Guess Who

Emblazoned red on a steely blue
just a symbol that stands between me and you
just a silly red sheet to hide behind my pain
as you stare into the sky, am I a bird or a plane

I want to be just a man like you
but instead I must soar ever upward into the yonder blue
I want to be someone other than a symbolic god
but I can't even return to my own home and sod

Instead I am an orphan, alone and confused
nothing more than a walking shield to be used
Bullets won't kill me, nothing here will
but for that one green rock that my heart aches for still
