Guardian

Nerve guards over brittle emotions
keeping them from bursting forth.
Holding you up time and again
when threatened with contact enforced.

One step forward, two steps back
staying in the situation.
Feel your anger, frustration and fear
all fight for domination.

Pulse by pulse you feel it wane.
The control you thought you had.
Until there is nothing left.
Fight or flight is now at hand.

Speak your mind unchecked or cry,
out there for all to observe.
Then they finally see the truth,
Emotion guards over brittle nerves.
