Grow Up

Shouting for attention, yet afraid to stand alone We call ourselves adults now, but we haven’t fully grown “Watch me, Daddy, watch me!” From daring heights we call But when we stumble down we scream, “Don’t look at me at all!” We stiffen with defiance while tears sting in our eyes Resentful of the times we must resist temptation’s cries We measure our own worthiness by other men’s success True, we are God’s children, but we’re spoiled none the less Bit by bit our selfish pride grows fatter day by day While inside our hungry souls are wasting fast away

we all want our fathers approval. Even if they are not around, and we feel their dissapproval when we make poor choices even if he is not around. I really felt your poem -alopez

Outstanding look at the greed and self pity in today's society. There will always be an emptiness when our goals and aspirations are materialistic. God Bless. Keep writing. Vince
