Grow like a tree, son

The pale red face with wrinkles With a warm smile spread across the face My granny, Sat out on the porch Watching the intense dark sky with stars Taking me on her lap as I reached Giving me warmth Running her slim fingers across my hair You should grow like a tree, son Said my granny I looked at her confused, Her small eyes filled with affection, Accompanied by a bright smile, Smiling at me she continued, You are a seed when born The soil, education The air, your friends The harder you work, the stronger the roots Water, sunlight, are like your parents The nutrients, your teachers With all necessities fulfilled, You grow, son You grow independent Like a fine tree Providing shelter for everyone Fulfilling others needs Helping others directly or indirectly With a purpose for life Live a life worth remembering Grow like a tree, son! The words made difference, Of me of before, I'll grow like a tree
