Greetings Lovely Daughters
Here I am at sixty-six
Up to mischief
Up to tricks
When will I grow up I wonder
Not before I’m six feet under
Aren’t most grown-ups such boring farts
Stressed with inward-focused hearts
And most don’t pass the happy test
Oh if you do my four daughters
You are surely blessed
Do you spring out of bed each morning
Do you shout for joy and greet the dawn
Do you smile at that face in the mirror
Do you celebrate the day you were born
Do you grasp at life with a zest
And a childish dose of wonder
I hope you do all these things and more
As life’s a treasure there to plunder
Do you tackle every challenge
Even though the road is steep
Do you learn from all your failures
For the lessons there to keep
Do you possess an inner peace
An internal locus of control
A safe harbor against those raging storms of life
With serenity your goal
Do you greet everyone with an understanding
That most believe the lie
That happiness is elusive
One long struggle till you die
So listen closely my precious daughters
And let your thoughts not go astray
Heed your wise old father’s words
And you will surely find a better way
