Greetings

GREETINGS Look up and witness the sight ! Everyone should share my delight At the mighty sky with myriad light - The crackle of stars on a January night. There, from this ocean of nothing Between me and them, nor up nor down, Their message comes to me after sailing Tirelessly and unendingly , seeking ground: And settles into my eye and is satisfied To have reached its destination aglow, Telling me that starlife still existed When it set off so long ago. In the same random way Our own sun’s lightboat reaches them With the same millennial delay Over this silk sea without hem. It means that they know we existed, That we had life, our sails didn’t luff. A simple greeting is our message: And that is epitaph enough.

Isn't it amazing how long it takes light to travel through space, Syd? The stars that brighten our skies tonight may well have gone nova by now. At least our sun will be shedding light for millenia to come. Love the last two lines especially! Great poem, Syd. Love, Carolyn
