Green Point

At what point do we reach the turn
The second before the spiral
At the moment of no return
When all regrets are visioned vital
To our demise, the urgency of the blind
Fat with profit driven policy
Ignoring burnt grass, paying no mind
To food shortages that became normalcy
Wrapped up in pathetic fallacy
Autumn hides false prosperity
Imagined lands of Albion's dream
Fields of flourish not concrete seen
Too scared to admit that we are beyond
Any points of green

Rachel, this is a powerful ecological lament, propelled by urgent questions and a steadily tightening sense of consequence. The near-rhymes and compact quatrains give it a controlled, incantatory momentum, while images such as “burnt grass,” “Autumn,” and the dreamed fields of Albion sharply expose the gap between comforting appearances and environmental reality. The closing fragmentation into “Any points of green” is especially affecting—it leaves the reader with a stark, memorable image of what is at stake.

Thanks Alison! I often find the easiest poetry to write is when an issue is fresh in my mind. Thank you for the excellent feedback of my poem written in angry haste! Glad to see I can still pull out decent structure under pressure of my own making.
