Green Eyes and Polka Dots
When I was a young man some years ago,
I loved a lady, but she did not know.
For she was a thinker and I a fool -
The clown of the class in love with a jewel.
So I took my thoughts and my dreams elsewhere.
Still they returned to green eyes, auburn hair.
But I had no hope 'til one windy day
I walked behind her thinking what to say.
A gust of wind came sudden from nowhere -
There were polka dots on her underwear!
Hard to describe my feelings, just so glad
When she laughed a sense of humor she had.
Then the talk came easy to two young friends,
And love developed as mostly it tends.
Now we are old and treasure what we got
From a gust of wind and a polka dot.
