Greedy Poaching

Rhino poachers often hunt at night When the Rhino has poor eye sight. These prehistoric creatures Cannot distinguish human features. But with a well-developed sense of smell Fortunately they can always tell When danger or a poacher is close, Thanks to their sensitive nose. Every horn that they take back, And Rhino body that they hack, Is yet more money in their belt, To which no sentiment is felt. Subsistence Poachers who randomly Kill, fit a less important role, Their profit cannot compare, To syndicates with international flair! These professionals are sourced From a military career, Using weapons and tactics that Inflict unimaginable pain and fear. Rhinos are darted from the air, Without hesitation or human care. Some Rhinos are found still half alive, And veterinary surgeons rush to help Them survive, But could these same people perhaps Be involved and accept, These horrific acts, could they in fact, Be suspect? Will Rhinos become extinct, This is a worrying fear, Statistics do indicate that this scenario, Is realistically near! REPOSTING FROM A POEM 2018 WHEN I JOINED POETRY SOUP

In our place, it is elephants and wild pigs which become prey to poachers. Elephants are hunted for ivory and pigs for flesh ! It is so sad ! Your poem clearly expresses your respect for life and the need to preserve wild life from extinction ! Beautifully composed with a lot of concern for life, Jen !

You do well to keep harping on these delicate topics, Jenny. All creatures are gifts to humanity, and the greed pf some should never be allowed to rob us of what is rightly ours. ~ Warm regards, hugs and blessings dear friend. // paul

When I read your title, "GREEDY POACHING." I first thought it was about people taking from other people. Rhino poachers are about money and not life. What a sin. So Sad. A wonderful story/write. Have a blessed day.............

Yes, it is hard to stop madness when $$ is pushing in the other direction. We have a distorted sense of value and a society that does not have the ability to regulate itself properly. This is only a sign of that.

Hello Jennifer ... such a sad poem Jennifer. These atrocities are felt the world over, but it's the buyers of these products that need to be hunted down. It breaks my heart to read what continues to go on - thank you Jennifer - Lindsay. PS: had a virus (not covid) that laid me flat for three weeks but ok now.

Well, Jennifer, thank you for calling my attention to this horrible practice... Hope it can be halted right away!... Want to assure you, however, that the 'Rino' will never be extint in the USA, where they will live on as 'Republicans In Name Only,' i.e., 'liberal Republicans.' lol. ~ gw

Jenny, I love how you use your poetic talents to raise awareness of the plight of the rhino and other nearly endangered species. I hope this detestable practice comes to an end before it is too late and they are gone forever. Blessings and hugs ~ John

Sad that in time the only place we'll see them is in a book. But big money is involved, more rangers should be recruited to stamp out this criminal activity Tom P S. Congratulations on your book Jennifer, way to go.

Hello Jennifer, poaching should be against the law. I say- leave the animals alone and let them live their lives. I for one do not like the hunters that kill an animal for a head display for a wall. Or kill an elephant for their tuffs. Or killing a seal for the fur. It makes me angry. Hugs.

The greed and cruelty these people have is evil, there are no limits to what they will do. I detest this sort of thing with any living creature. Mankind takes and destroys everything. These are animals of majestic beauty. Emilia
