Great Escape
Gathering buckets and spades the children laugh
Running back and forwards to the car, arms full
Each trip stacking more "important" beach equipment in the boot
All packed, I go inside to lock the house up
The door swings open again, someone needs the bathroom
Eventually we pull away and head into the early weekend traffic
Stopping briefly at our favourite sandwich shop for snacks and supplies
Can you please stop tapping on the window, silence for 15 seconds
An hour later I park the car, children cascade onto the pavement
Packing their stuff as best I can we walk down to the shore and play
Ensconced on the beach until high tide chases us home
