Gratitude For Recent Food
Year fourteen ninety two
Upon Atlantic’s traverse
Europeans discovered food
On the other side of Earth:
Including avocados,
Amaizing corn and peppers,
And roots of sweet potatoes,
Which delighted early settlers.
Who shipped out jalapeños
To Europe, then to yonder
Followed by potatoes
On a march to conquer hunger.
Tomatoes, great for sauces,
The pineapple sweet-marvel,
And green-bean pods, and squashes,
Surprisingly, were novel.
Flavor-fave vanilla,
Pretty strawberry gems,
Plus chocolate, all-time thriller
From America, do stem.
And peanuts, two per pod
And cashews, and neat pecans…
Let’s give thanks to G-d
For the foods from the new land!
