Grandma,S Kitchen
GRANDMA’S KITCHEN
In her kitchen here,
Grandma’s welcoming cheer,
Embracing kids of kith-n-kin
And engaging with tasty treats pleasing,
From the mixing basin of pudding makings,
With licks of spoon and bowl of creation,
And from the cubby-hole above the stove,
From grandma’s treasure trove of secreted joys
To test the tongue with sugary delights,
And from the ice-box frozen gifts
That stick to tongue and freeze the gizzards way below,
Or plucked from barrel up there on shelf
Home-made from the stove a delightful dip of surprise,
A ginger-breadman or Turkish delight
To caress the tongue beholden to taste,
‘Tis the way of grandma’s showing,
The value of waiting and manners respecting,
That in her kitchen here
Grandma’s sovereign of all tastes and treats,
And that children of kith-n-kin are most welcome here,
And with that comes respect for the queen
Of her castle at this point.
This is for all grandmothers great and small,
May God bless you one and all.
