Grains of Sand, Pretending To Be Boulders

Grains Of Sand, Pretending To Be Boulders

After winning, do try to be a real winner
your moment may make or break another.

Nobody lives in the glory their mind conjures
except those lost thinking in fantasy.

Starving people want more food to eat
not words and praise of your feats.

Think again, consider life is a mystery
the importance of you lives only a moment.

Cross another bridge and look at the water
did the long, sad look down hurt?

If not you are sailing a slow, doomed ship
truly a barge filled with massive waste.

No mortal man is an island of salvation
yet any could be a saving god to others.

Robert J. Lindley, 04-09-2015

Note- I rarely ever write in couplets. Writing in non-rhyming couplets is even more rare for me to do. Reason is when I do my muse usually leaves the room laughing.. And I dearly hate that....
Thank God, she didn't laugh this time.. merely tossed out, " you are improving , but don't quit your day job."

Robert, your couplet is rich in wisdom. It effectively reminds us of some truths we would rather ignore (I know it did that for me). Thank you for sharing them. Rest assured, your muse is very much by your side.

I congratulate you on this effort. It turned out well...non-rhyming couplets-- even for someone who writes mainly in free and blank verse, couplets are daunting. I think I'd loose the cohesion that you have here, or that's what I tell myself anyway. Isn't it nice to have a muse that keeps you humble...(:-D) ~jan

Your words are truly wonderful! This is SO VERY TRUE! Everyone loves to feel proud and accomplished. Our job, however, is not to cause others to see our greatness, but to see God's greatness through us. We can do all things through Christ, but NOTHING without him. Also, what good have you done, if you have only served yourself? Thank you for sharing! A 7 from me!
