Goodness

You were good in the beginning, when darkness covered the world, 
You were good in all creation, your majesty unfurled.
You were good in the garden, at our first fallen choice, 
You were good in the flood, when evil was the only spoken word of our voice.
You were good to Job, in the midst of his trials, 
You were good to Moses, in a basket on the Nile.
You were good in Egypt, when you freed a nation of slaves, 
You were good in the desert, when we faltered in praise.
You were good to King David, man after your heart,
You were good when he failed you, your mercy did not depart.
You were good in the manger, when you provided Our King, 
You were good at His baptism, with your spirit on the wing.
You were good in your truth, through your Son it was spoken, 
You were good when he walked among us, and mended the broken. 
You were good when He wept, asked the cup to be passed, 
You were good when you will was done at the last. 
You were good at Abrahams alter, where you provided the ram, 
You were good at the cross, when you provided the lamb. 
You were good when He rose, breathed life to dead flesh, 
You were good when you conquered the power of death. 
Father you are good now, even in things I cannot see, 
You have always been good, and eternally, you shall be.
