Goodbyes

The disgust on your face says it all...
My mere breathing upsets you so...
Your obvious loathing cannot be hidden,
I want to stay but you want me to go...
That raging river beneath our bridge has washed away all your love...
Just a sludge of hatred remains both below and above...
I've done too much now and there's nothing I can say...
Your hate has become indifference, and no penance can I pay...
If I left tomorrow there would be no tears in your eyes...
The relief of my absence would break the bonds and sever ties...
Over time you will forget me, for I am a regret and a mistake...
You'll say goodbye without a hug, a kiss, or even a handshake...
