Goodbye Darkness

Goodbye darkness I can't stay You've done your job Took my hope away I came to visit once again But couldn't let myself stay to the end I tried to live among your walls And let myself feel every fall Every hurtful word you said Did its part, filled me with dread Made me longing to be dead But I decided there and then To never wake up in the dark again To the blackness that you are And instead stay with my shining star The light of her became so dim While I was trying to be your friend She lost her shimmer and her shine But she found me in the nick of time When I had reached the end of the line I knew I had to let you go For your darkness was just too cold And there was nothing left for me to hold Although I gave in to the bleak She picked me up when I was weak She put my feet back on the ground Filled my ears with the sweetest sounds Words of Love instead of pain Felt like sunshine through the rain Took my hand and held it tight Guided me back to her light Never knew I could return For in the dark you're easily burned That cloak of black weighs a ton It can be as deadly as a gun The light is there but hard to see For those who see the world like me
