Goodbye
Is there any word
that conjures up
more heartaches than goodbye?
Friendships end
and lovers part
we often don't know why
Some pass away
and such a loss
can cause my soul to groan
While others simply
venture off
to distant parts unknown
When circumstances
force upon us
separate paths to travel
the miles in between
us grow
and common threads unravel
Sometimes old faces
cross my mind
faded with the years
What happened to
these long-lost souls?
I wonder through some tears
How did they slip
into my past?
Why have they gone away?
Such carelessness
upon my soul!
I wanted them to stay!
But there are times
when people choose
their separate ways to go
Life does not
play favorites
this much we all should know
A tearful wave
a back is turned
and wounded hearts will try
to grasp
the painful reasoning
behind the word 'goodbye'
