Gone

He died
On a day
Of blue skies
And singing birds
He died far from me
My arms could not protect him
When they told me of his death
I remember the bright sunshine
And my roses
I can’t forget them
His favorite flowers
I wanted to ask those men
If they were certain of his death
The day was too beautiful
He must be hiding somewhere
I told them
They showed me their sadness
In their silence
Head bowed as they hurried away
And left me alone with the news
He was dead
