Golden Mirror

In my blooming brokenness, I seek for a clue of something meaningful, but what if nothing of velvety value ever lies within material items, frozen in trembling time, soaked in raining blood roses, yet holds memories inscribed~ with blushing beams of blueberry glows, drifting above hushed hills sitting in the hollow hallways in hallowed motionlessness. Is it ironic that a golden mirror emanates reflections of more than just my bronze silhouette? It weighs heavy with seething secrets, lost between changing seasons and deranged emotions, resigned in rhythmic requiems of restrained freedom. I remember the suppressed sagas of silvery glass, that stretched beyond my watery iris, written with russet skin of fallen feathers... and I whisper to the vermilion wallflowers within my burgundy room, of how I found the magical mirror to my aching soul, in a retail store, illuminated by medieval chandeliers, hanging in Victorian gloominess. I used to sculpt crystalline chronicles along the caramel-tinted frames, that have seen stars of summer fade into fragile springs, while autumn arrived, knocking on my conscience, to cloak me in sparkling champagne warmth. But time is a relentless reminder of how the garnet moon wanes, and constellations of glistening truth crack. Now the mirror that heard the unsung songs beneath my marigold lipstick, is reluctant to see the unspoken wounds, leaving me stranded in an accidental battle with rhyme-less words, for all that remains, untamed, are hopelessly claimed strings of familiar, once-upon-a-fairytales... So it refracts, stands, unbothered, like a forgotten ornament left under a broken tree, with weeping leaves and tainted twigs, without a companion~ wrapped as a pleasant present ribboned with riddles of a weathered d r e a m ….. I have no desire to mindlessly objectify an abandoned object with mosaic metaphors…

Dear Empress, What a wonderful existential journey as we search for meaning beyond material items. I particularly loved how you used the metaphor of a golden mirror to reveal hidden emotions and memories. That is me for sure! As I read this insightful piece I could sense the weight of personal secrets and the passage of time, suggesting that true value and understanding come from deep introspection and self-awareness. I always fall hook line and sinker into your words, which cause me to reflect on many aspects of my own life. You are great at expressing these emotions that many of us feel. A Fav for Sure! - Blessings, My Dear Friend, Daniel

A good one to use a mirror. It's the only thing that closely reflects our light and darkness. I was working on a book and I used the mirror as a narrator. It was so ruthless. It has seen the day and night in us. And I thought to myself, the mirror follows us because it stores every part of us in it when we look at it. It shares our memories, maybe steals some. What if the mirror was cursed? To forever be an object that reflects other things. To think that we have never truly seen ourselves.

We are so much alike- the mirror and us. People have seen us but we just see ourselves through any reflective piece. So it is important to see ourselves pass our physical looks. You have written this very well as always. Lovely metaphors and alliterations. Cheers, dear Ink.

Oh it just dawned on me. This is for the contest on stuff, right? I have an old free verse about a mirrored lid that came off a jewelry box of mine. I had asked if it could be used and got no answer. Anyway, your way with the sounds of words is always so amazing. By the way, I loved the idea of marigold lipstick ! I just finished comments here. Time for emails!

maybe it's the inscribed memories that are the clue you seek to understand what was nothing more than an object to be cast aside as you grapple with life and its uncertainties...for a mirror holds only what you perceive...does it not, dear poet

This is a poem of variable motion spanning time. I like its references to chronological values. Is a garage sale in the near future?

In my blooming brokenness... This one pours our angst and hurt right from the beginning.. I like the The poem's structure, with its deliberate use of spacing and enjambment, adds to its poetic quality, emphasizing certain phrases and creating a rhythm that mimics the ebb and flow of the speaker's thoughts. Lines like "frozen in trembling time" and "sitting in the hollow hallways / in hallowed motionlessness" capture a sense of stasis and longing. It's sad how your poem concludes with a poignant image of abandonment and resilience, where the mirror, now a "forgotten ornament," stands amidst "weeping leaves and tainted twigs." The speaker's refusal to "mindlessly objectify an abandoned object with mosaic metaphors" signals a desire to move beyond mere surface interpretations, seeking deeper truths amidst the ruins of their dreams.

I agree with Tom below, material things are just stuff we collect, better not cling to hard, only love can gently let us thrive, before and long after dear heart, thanks for sharing such a jewel of a poem, xo

Awwn exactly sweet rose… i agree always a pleasure hearing from you really

Ha! Your last line is ironic, since you did just that. But I agree with you, there's no (true) velvety value in material things. Transient at best, including our dreams which often turn out to be a disappointment. True value lies in the people love and who love us back
