Gods warm light

Saturday night, uptown was alive with people young and old waiting for the bus, they weren’t complaining as some were huddled inside a bus shelter, wrapped up in a blanket as their bed..

It’s not the sight most of us would like to see, as I’m sure they turn a blind eye, my daughter and I said a short prayer. it’s someone’s grandpa brother, dad.. it’s so sad…

As we await the bus arrival, we meet “Kris” an older guy who told us he’s from Mississippi, he rides the bus to keep warm, it was as if I looked beyond his “intoxication” to see a human who made me laugh, we need to look within because we all could fit his shoes..

My daughter flipped on the shelters heater, to Kris’s delight, he was happy to stand under, who knew a simple flip of a switch could make someone’s night, it was special as my daughter saw too a simple guy who needed Gods warm light.

We entered the bus, were entertained by a woman’s music on her headphones, no judging here, as we all need to sing out loud. Kris rode with us, we all have a story to tell. As I got off the bus, I said “have a great night”, never know who you’ll meet in uptown, thank your lucky stars you have a warm safe place to lay your head, because “Gods warm light is keeping uptown’s unsheltered warm every night.
