Notes About The Poem

This is a massive rewrite of an older poem of mine.

I wondered what it might sound like to music.

Alas, weeks and weeks of rewrites and regenerations

do not get rid of the abundant hard 'S' sounds nor

the Tuttting 'T' sounds.

I've finally moved on to a more 'gospel' sounding version

which has less of this 'sibilance'. So I thought I'd share this

(my favourite but imperfect) version with you.

Lyrics are human... ie... Me!

Music and vocals are hugely shaped and moulded by me but remain...

A.I. generated

Listen to poem:

God Willing

Dear-Sir… or Madam I’m not in the habit of talking to air But just for the moment I’ll talk like you’re there My mind isn’t closed to your eternal existence My doubts are not simply a stubborn resistance But I cannot see you, I can’t feel you’re there And I can’t comprehend that you’re everywhere But I spurn no religion, refute no-one’s faith I envy the way they feel cosy and safe The way they feel shielded from final damnation Instead to be offered eternal salvation No need to show off Nor to cry it out loud Maybe the shape of your face in a cloud Perhaps if a bible just sat in the street Should trip an assailant who beats a retreat And the clouds above part to reveal a bright sun And your voice in my head says, “You’re welcome, my son.” might I wonder, then, And might I contemplate The notion that You are my light and my fate. I don’t fail to see all the beauty on Earth I never have sought to devalue its worth But where it all came from, I’ve, almost since birth Puzzled… and fought that confusion with mirth But I’m sure of one thing… your humour is sound In fact I’d be tempted to call it profound For only a God that has wit on his side Would make man… and put all his plumbing outside The poems I write that make light of your majesty I sense that you won’t see as insult or travesty I’ve made light of you and your son and his mother But I think you’ll smile and say tell me another No need to show off Nor to cry it out loud Maybe the shape of your face in a cloud Perhaps if a bible just sat in the street Should trip an assailant who beats a retreat And the clouds above part to reveal a bright sun And your voice in my head says, “You’re welcome, my son.” might I wonder, then, And might I contemplate The notion that You are my light and my fate. But now I must come down to Earth to reflect On talking to air and what I might expect In spite of the beauty, the air that I breathe As much as I’d like to, I cannot believe But maybe if I were to walk any street And ashes and embers rain down on my feet Where a bush is ablaze for a fire’s been made And it should say, ‘Hey, call the fire brigade.’ Then there might be hope for this cynical waif For something like that might just give me faith For now though I’ll try to live life good and kind And maybe, God willing… you’ll give me a sign. No need to show off Nor to cry it out loud Maybe the shape of your face in a cloud Might I wonder, then, And might I contemplate The notion that You are my light and my fate. Yours faithfully… … Yours faithfully… … .. Or should that be… … Faithfully yours …

I guess the cruelty Dave mentions is part Of the original sin-bin..Thats not gone.? Its hanging on..In respects of Gods reality.' We or i.' Could consider that that Which is unseen as in way..way..way..way. out in outer outer space as measurememts go including here, is sorta bigger that whatever else..Like there are more stars than sand Grains on earths beaches despite all the Ether betweeb them as a prophet wrote it..I but here quote it..Apart from that read my ( blog requests January 2025 and 2026 regarding wild and bushfires in California and Victoria where i called in prayer for Gods intervention..Apart from This it might be you have read my reports of being exposed to His presence.' And the fire angel apperance

In South Carolina 2014..We all know moisture cant burn.' Or can It.? I don't find it easy to live in this World to work things out mentally ( but consider this ) with age you loose hair teeth possesions health, friends and the you that started the journey of life? So its all about change and realising the physical is temporary And real reality is in the fluidity of Gods presence..Well thats my best fof this morning everyone..God bless and stay awake.!!!

Haha, I agree, God must have a tremendous sense of humor, though sometimes, a cruel one. Nicely done!

I’d love to be writing more, Paula, but the ideas aren’t coming. I’m okay ‘improving’ or ‘songifying’(?) older writes but the magic lines, those kicker lines you can work to, from or around are evading me. Glad you enjoyed this one. Terry

Hadn't seen this gem before Terry, its brilliant writing. Putting it to music has brought it to life, well done, if not potd at least potw. A fave from me. Tom

O, this is wonderful, Terry. An honest assessment of the hardest relationship we ever have. How DOES one relate to thin air, anyway? ... Bravo! A FAVE for me. Thanks, Gershon

Thanks, Gershon. Wrote the original poem some time ago. Added a chorus or two, changed many a line and produced a substantially different entity, albeit with the same message. Chuffed with a fave for this… makes the effort all the more worthwhile. Terry

Right, here goes fifth attempt at a reply. Glad you enjoyed so much Deb. First attempt was very close to this but with far more Sssssss and T (Ter) sounds. Much changing of words and even whole lines brought me this far but can’t get rid of the remaining jarring notes. I know about a process called De-essing … but it achieves little. C’est la vie. Terry

Terry, I think I’ve read and listened to almost every poem you’ve written and put to music. By far, this creation is your best… from the questioning of faith to your marvelous sense of humor at recognizing God must have one, being the architect of the human anatomy.

Okay, so I can reply to you but apparently not to Deb, will try again shortly. So glad you liked this so much… it’s been a real labour of love, trying to get this as good as I can get it. The sibilance is less offensive on different output devices. Speakers not too bad but ear buds… YIKES!
