God wants our best

by Suzan Michelle Satchell

God asks for our most cherished gift,
The one we love, the one we protect and treasure best.
The thing our hearts hold closest still —
He asks for that, even though it may be hardest.

He desires the gift we value most assuredly,
The one we would never choose to lose, or give a second thought to give,
The joy, the dream, the love we boast —
That’s the gift He asks us to choose.

For when God gives, He gives His best,
No holding back, no second best.
He gave us Jesus, His only son.
A Father’s heart, His only Son.

He gently formed us from the dust,
Breathed life and purpose into us.
He called us good, He called us loved,
Fearfully made in every way.

So what shall we return to Him,
The One who gave us breath and grace?
Let’s offer all — our love, our best,
Our hearts laid open, face to face.
Hope that when we choose, we choose our best gift.
