God Is In Charge Not Me

I am a school counselor Who tries to leave the pain I see at school Or on a school bus Unfortunately, some of it follows me home Gives me nightmares, makes me second guess myself. Empathy does not fix problems So when I am depleted, discouraged, When I am upset that I cannot take a child And keep her safe or make things better I dig into the dirt, and I plant something I plant trees, bushes, and all kinds of flowers My yard looks like a botanical garden I call it dirt therapy and it is the only thing That works for me. Taking me out of pain, Revitalizing me, and helping me to Remember that God is in charge, Not me. I look up at the sun, and I smile Understanding that it is not mine to fix. It is His.

Very good for you! Sure beats $250 for a therapy session, eh?! Cheers, Gershon

This is a good one and oh so true. I, too, have spent most of my years in human services and the stories break your heart over and over again..glad you are surrendering and have found a healthy release..Nancy Kaufman

Any problem we come across can be so painful. We humans think we can solve all things. That limitation is a reminder to: a) do your best b) leave the rest to God Pretty simple, eh! Panagiota xx

It's tragic that sometimes things that we want to put right are beyond our reach and it bothers you. A sign that you are a very caring person Caren. Tom

We can only give comfort and show them there is a better world. So, we hope the seed we planted helps them fine comfort in the future.

It is all we can do, but it is really difficult letting some children return "home" knowing what is waiting for them.
