Her shadow fell, silent, across my life
Inspiring, enlightening, mesmerizing
Reminding me why I had to give all I could
With a heart wide open in hopes of doing good
This woman, my mom, the one who held my hope
Created a love inside my soul that smiled
Through the dark and left kindness in the minds
Of everyone who I passed on my way through life
This woman, my encourager, taught me that…
Being the light was sometimes more important
Than being the one who wins the victory and
More essential to the serenity within the soul
This woman who gave me life, gave me a light
To shine through the darkest of nights – into the hearts
Who came into my world looking for a whisper of the sun
Breaking through the darkest of storms, breathing in love
And breathing out a compassion that lights up the world
This woman, my mother, was the example of joy
The pattern for patience, the paradigm of grace
And the gentle affection that smiled on my face
In praise for the One who gives this light and love
With a open hand – this free gift that is alive
Breathing and breaking through fear and sorrow
Assuring the heart that love dances on the dawn
Awakens the mind and reassures the soul who knows
God has always been and always will be with me
I’m so thankful to know this woman who told me
God is love and love is God… forever and always
Abiding within the one who knows His Son
Thank you, God, for your Son and my wonderful Mom!
