Go Pound
Why must I be the subject
of a single-minded song
crooned out evidently to
your admiring throngs?
Must you stare me down
flatten me against the wall
while to your great amusement
my heart beats fast then falls?
You have so many women:
they could get you through a year!
So why must you insist on
sticking fast to me, my dear?
I admit it, fascination
had the better part of me.
I admit to desperation
and some itch I could not see.
But keep your humming soft, boy
then go pound a different tune,
’cause you’re just an aging rock star
whereas I’m the Queen of Gloom.
