Notes About The Poem

This poem first appeared in the book: 'Beware the Cheshire Cat' but is also included in the omnibus collection: 'Butterfly Mind'
(12/2023) The Pleiades are a beautiful cluster of blue stars visible from both the northern and southern hemispheres. Also known as the Seven Sisters, it contains a lot more than seven stars though seven is usually visible to the sharpest naked eye on the clearest of nights. It is rumoured that the San people of Southern Africa can see a larger number of the Pleiades stars than any other people.

GLOW

Twinkle, twinkle: the screen-blue faces,
constellating darkened spaces -
dazzled gentlemen and ladies,
shining like the group Pleiades.
But liquid crystal blinds these ‘stars’
from seeing the real ones high and far.
Light pollution - heavy distraction -
allows to be seen just a small sad fraction
of all the night puts on display;
And the San of Africa, so they say,
see more than seven of the sisters blue,
twice more, and if this turns out true,
it’s because their eyes have never been
myopically washed out by a screen.
