Glancing Back

Glancing back at the choices that I made in life I wonder what difference it would have made If I had taken a left or right turn here or there Instead of the wrong and right turns that I made. But I know that foresight is more important in life, And my twenty-twenty hindsight rarely matters. Though disappointments from love and losses caused me strife, If I had done things differently, things might not have turned out better. So, I have learned to grit my teeth and write things off to experience, Knowing that my mistakes may be the one thing that I truly own. I also know that my mistakes in life helped to build my character, And usually, I did not make those mistakes alone. Most importantly, I have learned to always move forward in my life’s plan Because looking backwards can sometimes be too painful. Time is linear and stretches on to infinity beyond my life span. And, as my past moves slowly away in my mind’s rearview mirror, It seems to become less meaningful.

The poem is about moving forward past bad times. Bad times are usually sad times. The original title of the book Gone with the Wind was, "Tomorrow Is Another Day". One faces tomorrow's problems using past experiences. Though we move forward, we occasionally glance back using our rearview mirror. But we should not dwell too much on the past, especially when the past is painful.
