Give Yourself a Chance

This isn't meant to be boastful I'm not trying to brag at all I just can't seem to understand What seems to be my downfall? Granted, I love the single life Don't get me wrong But it's your very disbelief That's kept me single so long You never allow yourself the chance To tell me who you are It's as if we are simply acquaintences Whose encounters between are few and far Yes I can seem harsh and Yes I do create my space Because as for first impressions You can never permanently erase Don't take my distance as a warning I'd love to allow you in Someday you could cross that boundary From acquaintence to friend I'm not one for hearsay or games A realist in every form In a world of "typicalness" I'm outside of the norm Perhaps it's this persona That gives off an array Of unattainability And causes you to stray But don't feel so hesitant to know me It just takes time to let you in It's the effort of your ways That ultimately determines when I'd like to say I'm an exception But for all I know you could be as well I'll admit I need to learn That relationships aren't simply pass or fail I'm in search of something pure and real By no means a fairytale romance At the end of the day I'm still a girl So give yourself a chance
