GIVE ME BACK TODAY
GIVE ME BACK TODAY
It’s almost time, and all know it comes too soon
Perceived as faster than the phases of the moon
Couldn’t life just for once, play a different tune
The hour hand is pointing up to a darkening sky
And in the distance, I can hear the seagulls cry
Time is finite so they say, so give me back today
I’m not asking for much, merely a short extension
I guess all in this circumstance will feel the tension
That sense of nearness, a narrator fails to mention
This last twenty four hours that I will miss so much
My hairs rise, as I can almost feel that gentle touch
It’ll be soon to fade away, so give me back today
Some have even predicted that a new world awaits
And a future that only the wise man contemplates
But how does he know when it’s all up to the Fates
As each time is done, the contract makes it clear
No outward sign of resignation, just perhaps a tear
Is it really so much to ask, just give me back today
