Gist

Quatrain #837:
GIST

Glimpse that fine light in precious glow,
Insight brings sight in poignant know;
Sublime soul flight brings wholesome feel,
Thrill fond delight with gist that shows.

I've not seen this form before, but you excel in it Leon....Maria

Dear Maria: Thank you for your kind words. The Rubai originated in Persia, and is a single quatrain. The 1st, 2nd and 4th lines rhyme at the end but the 3rd floats free. In addition, there's an internal rhyme for all four lines. I have adapted this form to suit my verse with a line of 8 syllables. So the internal rhyme is at the 4th syllable of every line. To make things a bit more spicy, the title of the quatrain is built into each line. Thus, the first letter of each line spelled downwards is an Acrostic poem. All the best then, Leon
