I can still remember, when they said you may not be born, my heart became so heavy, wondering how I would mourn. I can still remember, the first day I held you close, you were so calm and beautiful, with big brown eyes and a little nose. I can still remember, daddy was your first word, such a dulcet melodious voice, more beautiful than a mockingbird. I can still remember, when I would come home at night, how you would come running, smiling sweetly and eyes shining so bright. I can still remember, sometimes when life became a struggle, you would calm all my fears, with a big hug and a warm snuggle. I can still remember, pleading with God to keep me alive, so that I could always protect you, I needed the will to survive. I can still remember, your flamboyant 'diva like' style, singing and dancing all day, you knew how to make people smile. You think your dad's like a mountain, how in trials, I show no emotion, its because I don't want you to worry, even when I crumble, I'll show you devotion. So, my precious little girl with the curls, today's the day you're no longer a teen, but you will always be my innocent angel, even when throwing tantrums like a drama queen! I know the day will come, when your prince charming will take you away, But, my little sweetheart, remember that daddy loved you since your first day.

A write that brings out emotion. How quickly time with our children goes by. I have a daughter and our relationship is sometimes strained. It is a great source of angst when that happens. But we do love each other. Life is sometimes sad for a parent. Hard to know when we're being constructive and when it's too much.

Dear SO, I just wanted to tell you how much your lovely poem meant to me. A parent and kid share an incredible relationship, and your writings beautifully portray that link, as well as memories of the two. The vulnerability and tenderness of your shared experiences enchanted me. I admire how you so authentically and warmly describe the path of being a parent. Your devotion and affection for your daughter are evident in every line. Warm regards,

I imagine the sweet girl with curls.... your lovely daughter. I have always longed to have a daughter, but have got just two sons. Daughters are more expressive.... and intimate. This poem exposing your affection for your daughter is so heart warming and sweet. "I can still remember, pleading with God to keep me alive, so that I could always protect you, I needed the will to survive." Your concern for your daughter makes you want to live through all trials. This is a parent's mind and I can so well relate. Beautifully written.

This was such a beautiful tribute to your daughter, my friend. I'm not saying that I don't love my sons because I do, but...the bond between daughter and father is strong. My daughter was born in the doctor's clinic during a blizzard, and I helped in the delivery.

It is quite evident from your poem how precious your daughter is for you, and mostly we read about motherhood and how much a child means for the mother but this is different and very precious. And i love the lyrical cadence of your write and how sincere it is and how youv described the girls with curls and how she is to you. Especially loved the lines about how you hide emotions and certain things from your child as you are the rock for her. So sweet and lovely to read that. Not all fathers are

Dear Silent One, This is such a sweet sentimental and emotive poem. My daughter Sarah was a "daddy's girl" thru most of her early years too. Best of luck in your contest entry.
