girl never noticed her hitchiker

Bird followed the chair closely, it looked like a lovely perch.
I think I should take a ride, he said to his cousin Lurch.
Lurch thought it was a bad idea, and this he quickly said.
The little girl was oblivious to him, she never turned her head.
