Ghost In the Misty Haze
The hill was misted by the sea
A walk was on the cliff top, you and me
We saw no other for miles on the right of way
The public seemed quiet on this misty day
We watched the skylark beat its wings and call
We saw the sunlight through misty fall
A figure silhouetted in the bright haze
Came out of nowhere, we were amazed!
Stood motionless looking at our passage made
I felt a pressure bearing on my cautious brain
I felt a shiver as closer we came
something watching every step we made
I looked over and saw a silhouette with no face
I knew he'd followed us with his stare
20m we were apart, a curtain of mist veiled our gaze
I knew he was watching me and you!
I shouted over a 'hello' to communicate
On approach I made, he stood so still!
Menace in the air, menace in his faceless stare!
As I got closer I saw the bunker come out the haze
I felt a shiver, I felt a pain, I felt a chill.
The figure vanished as I gave my name
I turned to face you and called your name
You saw what I saw through this misty haze?
As we moved further and further away
Trying to analyse what we had seen in the misty haze!
You kept looking to see a face
A face you did not see but what you saw?
The same soldier's silhouette at the bunker door
