Geese

Today i watched the geese
crossing the pond outside my window
like Jesus with webbed feet
skating,
then resting
in the frigid February air

this weekend i will bury my father
and watch my breath trail into the atmosphere
next to my mother's grave
i will say goodbye to
things i was familiar with
and hello to adulthood
as i am no ones child anymore

it is a heavy weight to carry
but i will eat and drink and sleep it
until it is routine

and i will remember this winter
and the pond of geese
like Jesus with webbed feet
skating then resting
