Gave My Life

I gave my life For a cause without concern Like a flower Digging through concrete I filter the light Through years of darkness What is left Is all that sustains me I sought God But found only demons So my heart Became a bastion of corruption I imprisoned myself But blamed others for years Now alone I wonder how I could ever be forgiven

I love the ironic imagery of the flower digging into the concrete while we know it's actually growing in the other direction, from the concrete up. It somehow reflects how the forgiveness may have actually begun by the intention itself.
