This is one of my favorite meals to cook; ate it often in the Alsace region of France.

Fresh unpasteurized sauerkraut (so probiotic!) Cooked slowly with sausages, Potatoes, and ham; Sweetened with Riesling A pinch of Cloves

Mark, this sounds absolutely wonderful washed down with a nice bottle of Fischer and a crusty baguette or boule! I would saute onions with the mix also. Congratulations!

You're right, I forgot the onions. Another Alsatian dish that goes with this is Onion Tarts. There are some chic restaurants in the La Petite France tourist area of Strasbourg where choucroute garnie is the house specialty.

One of my favorite staples. Also like to make Moroccan or Tunisian style couscous, stroganoff, lasagna, and sometimes goulash.

oh my gosh, Mark, you must not have seen my poem I just posted the other day on Two Foods and how much I hate cabbage and fermented veggies!! Anyway, this is very cleverly written and deserves to be on the list for making certain kinds of people drool!! Congrats in my contest.

My dad was born in Lithuania Andrea and this is a typical food they ate - I was brought up on it - I wasn't fussed on dad's home made version but the jars of pickled saurkraut are wonderful:-) Hugs jan xx

Indifferent to it by itself, but slow-cooked as described it is delicious.
