Games Some People Play
Games Some People Play
After all I've lost along the way
there's no need to think things over.
Gone are all but memories
of things I can't recover.
Actions running through my mind
they haunt me day and night.
Yet still it's true at least for you
that two wrongs will make it right.
You couldn't see things my way
still you stopped me from leaving.
Trapped into this life we knew
as we watch each other grieving.
I can't express the pain inside.
Your tears are hidden from my eyes.
Each looking at one another
over our own wall of lies.
Sorrow cutting deep between
we can't begin to reach across.
You had a better plan than me
your gain is in my loss.
As you celebrate your victory
I know more than you can say.
Of an army with their sights on me
In the games some people play.
Where at your word they take my name
and drag it through the mud.
Turns out dirt mixed with water
is thicker than our blood.
Too many lies we can't recall
plots thicken stakes are high.
It might have been much simpler now
If only we had said goodbye.
To ride off toward the sunrise
from our little one horse town.
See how far away I'd be
before the sun went down.
Tears we cried things we denied
didn't help too much at all.
You couldn't let me go I guess
until the last of me should fall.
The battle drawing to an end
I never even had one chance.
Like children raising children
or a fat kid at a dance.
