"DR. SEUSS BRAGGED ABOUT HELPING TO KILL OFF DICK AND JANE.
"William Spaulding—who headed the educational division at Houghton Mifflin publishing—challenged Theodore Seuss Geisel to write "a story that first-graders can't put down."  Geisel responded with The Cat in the Hat—his first smash-hit. Children's literature hasn't looked back since. "I have great pride in taking Dick and Jane out of most school libraries," he subsequently said. "That is my greatest satisfaction."  --mentalfloss.com

Hello, Mark. I loved Dick and Jane..and God knows what kids read. Some of it very PC driven. As John said..they can make fun of Dick and Jane all they want. My generation... Most of us are college grads. Seuss was a clever book. But why do we have to make life full of strange animals and robots in order to read. Panagiota. Teachers are not entertainers or jesters,

Yup. Seuss sure smashed Dick and Jane to smitherines. Wouldn't it be funny if we found out that the author of Dick and Jane and Seuss were one and the same person?! :) gw
