From the Black Coat To God

from the Black coat to God

brushing my coat
get the dog hairs and lint
trapped in a rough brush

long firm strokes across the shoulders
down the back
there is a flap
like an old trench coat
stitched shut

why
it was meant to fly open freely
allow me to run

and why
did god give us mouths
then sew them shut with religion

Sometimes the order of my thinking seems strange even to me. Thank you it is an honour to be among your favourites.
