Friendship and Love Through My Eyes

Lately I’ve been trying to understand
if friendship and love must go hand in hand.
And to you my friend I will say this;
friendship without love cannot exist.

For friendship without love you cannot trust,
and love without friendship is nothing but lust.
Friendship alone will need an assist;
friendship and love should always coexist.

To be a friend you must give of yourself,
or your friendship will likely end up on a shelf.
To give of yourself you must have love;
love as pure as the snow white dove.

And nothing in return should you ever ask;
for love is selfless, if you’re up for the task.
And selfless is what we should all strive to be
For this is God’s wish for you and for me.

A selfless person demonstrates his love
by seeking guidance from up above.
Asking God for his strength to bestow
on his dear friend and His blessings to flow.

“All You Need is Love” the Beatles did sing,
But I think friendship is the key to everything.
Once again my friend I will say this;
friendship without love cannot exist.

I like to think LOVE a verb, rather than a noun, and once practiced, is easy. I have to agree with the sentiments of this lovely write.

A verb requires action, a noun is just a thing. That's my humble opinion.

I never considered the difference between love being a noun or a verb; I am going to have to ponder that for a while...

Hello John, as I read this poem it makes a lot of sense to me. I have some strong friendship in letters. I have some pen pals in the United States that i write to. I feel very close to them. Have a nice day my friend.

Darlene, thank you so much for your comments. I have a dear friend in a bad relationship and she told me love was no longer even in her dictionary; I wrote this poem to try and show her that as long as we have close friends love is a part of our lives. It would be a mighty lonely world without our friends. John

What is love? Perhaps simply the ability and desire to put work into someone/something in order for it to coexist happily? Or is it that feeling that we all dream of in our soulmate? I still ponder this.. thank you John you have put another spin on my ponderings.. i enjoyed this one.. kudos, Rose

Thank you for your comments, Rose, I'm glad you enjoyed. Poets have been pondering love since the dawn of time; maybe one day we will figure it out and understand it. John

That is it my friend. To allow a mutual relationship in friendship, there should be no love lust, but "trusted love," friendship is honey when there is trust, but is is the reversal when there is no love. Thanks for sharing, the message is vividly clear....
