Friends and Lovers

Friends aren’t always friendly
Lovers don’t always love
What do I do with my pain?

I search my soul
I struggle to see
What causes you to be so cruel?

Was it an unkind word
A careless comment
Something I said in passing?

Was it a thoughtless deed
An act of self
Something I did that hurt you?

Friends aren’t always friendly
Lovers don’t always love
I know what you do with your pain.

Steven, there was a contest a while back called Sandwich. Where you sandwich a poem between same lines front and end. I think you could have worked that into this one somehow. Anyway, I really enjoyed this one from you too. The only line I was unsure of was your last one. You are asking (her?) questions. So how do you know what she does with HER pain. maybe I am seeing it in a different way from you. Do you mean to say that she has put HER pain onto you? anyway, a great topic you wrote on!
