Friends

If you do not have a hand to lend,
Or a back that's strong and ready to bend.
If your words are harsh and won't defend.
And your life's a message, no one would send.
Then hold up a finger, you have one friend.

If you think of yourself through out the day,
And you get what you want while others pay.
Your skies seem blue, but, around you is gray.
Your life has been molded with muddied clay,
Then your mirror reflects your friends today.

                          BUT

If your smile reflects on every man.
Someone needs help, so you offer a hand.
If you're willing to say, "I understand."
You give your time when it wasn't planned.
Then you've got friends, and life is grand.

Robert A clever and true poem about friendship. If we are nice to others and not hurtful or mean, we will have caring people in our lives. But if we are rude, hateful and unkind, we will be alone. And nobody on The Soup is without friends. Thank you for the great comment on my What I Gave poem.

What a great idea. Were you trying to do that contest "what I gave?" Because you have almost that same phrase inside this poem!!! Nice one, my friend.

Thank you so much for your comments, Sara. To expect ourselves to write a gem every time we pick up the pen is a lot of pressure. Anyway, we may write a poem that we are not happy with and it just might change somebody's life. I'm glad that you read my poems and your words are always welcome..... Robert.
