Friendly Love
I love you
Not in a romantic way,
For the bond we have is stronger.
Couples get together and fall apart faster than the seasons change,
But you and I are stuck together like a messed up ball of yarn.
We are tied together, and to unravel our bond would take a lifetime.
I love you
I think about you constantly.
Every funny thing calls to mind an image of your smile,
and I hear your laugh in my head as I imagine what you would say if you were here.
I think about you as I walk down the street,
I imagine you falling off the sidewalk because you have two left feet.
And when I need a pick me up,
I hear you say, “You’ve got this.”
I love you
Despite your inability to answer your phone when I text you,
You’ll always pick up when I call.
I love you
And although you’re late to almost everything,
And your grammar is horrific,
And your use of text lingo makes me want to smh,
I love you
Not only are you able to put up with someone like me,
But because despite not knowing what a weasel is,
Or not knowing how to make mac-and-cheese from a box,
Or just being a clueless dork in general,
You are one of the smartest people I know.
I love you
We could live in different states and not talk to each other for years,
But you will still be my best friend,
And I will weep thinking of a world where I don’t know you.
My friend,
My dearest friend.
You are the brightest light in the universe,
The kindest person on Earth; you are perfect
And if you doubt or forget that for a second,
I will call you,
And like an angry parent,
I will give you a long, long lecture on how lucky the world is to have you.
My friend,
My dear, dear friend.
You are perfect,
And although I will never say it to your face,
I want you to know
I love you.
