Friend of Wisdom

FRIEND of WISDOM

Philosopher, they call me,
Following Pythagoras of old,
A friend of wisdom it means and
Nothing more.

For years philosophy’s principles
I tried to understand and
For decades her ethics strived
To apply
Plato, Socrates, Aristotle, Heraclitus
My subjects were, thus
Faithfully devoted to
Their teaching
With no success, I confess
From my part
But not because of a lack
Of trying

And now,
That my life's end, I discern clearer
By the day
To my horror came to realize
That although loyal a FRIEND of WISDOM
I have remained to this day
WISDOM herself NEVER thought of me
THE SAME WAY!

lovely offering, liked the ending particularly, I would say philosophizing is one of my favourite pleasures.

Dear Robert, Philosophy is like the wine, one cannot drink on empty stomach because if he does the results are known. I am happy though you like philosophy, for we all should love her because is the mother of all sciences! Thank you for your generous comment!

Dear Sara, The point is one to do whatever he can. If wisdom thinks one is wothwhile then she will show it when and if she thinks fit! The highest degree someone gets is a Ph. D. as you know i.e. Philosophy Degree of ... That is why Ph.Ds for me is a cerificate of cerified ignorenceaccepted by the holder! Thank you

She can be a tease, can she not? Wisdom changes as we learn and experience life...not all but some. I think it is different also for different cultures. Some wisdom though, stands true for all...without love, there can be no peace...is one of those for me. Enjoyed your poem...makes one think.

The point is: One may be a Friend of Wisdom but this doesn't mean Wisdom considers him her friend as well. Being a philosopher myself I have found it out! Unfortunately! Thank you!
