Freedom To Relish

A breath to take for granted in it's wake
though even and unfettered it may be
is still a breath that's simply ours to take

a gift of life that we received quite free
It's only when we inhale labored frost
and years pass by before our eyes to see

that we step back and place a valued cost
upon the air which, golden, silent sleeps
We can't reach out and grab at it with force

We can't redeem the tears that we will weep
but only relish every breath we take
and silver pour our future memories...
