Freedom For Zoo Animals

This was written after a visit to a zoo. ______________________________________ Bird in the cage, Why so much rage? "I want to touch the sky, Alas! I can't fly." Lioness in the den, What is your opinion? "I want to hunt in open, Life there is no fun.' Hippo in water, What is the matter? "Water here is stagnant and filthy, How can anybody be healthy?" You must be happy oh! Reindeer, There are so many of you here. "I want to run in open, Where is the space dear?" Each animal had something to say, About zoo and its way. Once animals and humans, Sat for a discussion. Bring long cages, Put humans in them, Feed them, take care of them, Let animals come and watch them. What about our freedom? Retorted humans in unison. We too want just that, animals said aloud. We are living creatures, Not mere display pieces. Is it not shameful to put animals in cage, All for money and wage? Oh! What gain? We are in so much pain. Let our life be short Let it be happy throughout Meeting ended for want of conclusion Such discussions have been going on from season to season For humans are always able to qoute more than one reason Back in cages animals are sad and silent In midst of their silence echoes voice unspoken Are we really human? Let us be human! Let's show some compassion, Pledge to end this plight, Let's join hand and fight, Let zoo become a thing of past, Let animals get freedom at last!
