Freedom and I

FREEDOM AND I

I ran with the dogs back in 69,
For I had no place to go.
In 70 followed a trend for a while
And worshiped the falling snow.
Tried to keep warm in the south for a spell
And fell on some real hard times.
In 74 expanded my soul,
Looking for reasons and rhymes.

I traveled the roads that a drifter knows best,
Searching for life and that's all.
The wind knew the name of adventurous souls,
I'd chase after her when she called.
Reached for the stars with the hope of a child,
Sometimes I'd touch them I swear.
If I heard of a place where dreams do come true,
I'd pack up my things and be there.

It was life from the start, that never will change.
Though I look at it now in new ways.
If I wander at all, it's here in my mind,
Where now and beyond blend with yesterdays.
And so many stars are faded and gone,
But my pockets are filled with their dust.
Yes freedom and I, we're still quite a pair.
With perspective a vagabond learns to adjust.

You celebrate freedom in a way that most do not know of. This is such a wonderful poem I can certainly relate to. Your ability to Rhyme shines in this amazing piece. Blessings and Aloha

Hi Janine, Thanks so much for your wonderful comment. Sometimes I wonder if my common down to earth language of my poetry reaches into the heart and soul of the reader. your words help me understand that it does for some folks. I appreciate that...... Robert

I'm sorry I miss this one until now---I do love freedom. With freedom you have nothing, but you have everything. Well done Robert, I hope you are well and safe in these dangerous days.

Hi Jerry, Sorry it took a while to get back to you. These are some strange days indeed and I am grateful that my wife and I and my children and grand children are living in Montana. Thanks for your comments about freedom and as you know, "The cost of freedom is eternal vigilance." Have a good Fathers day, my friend. Robert
