Freedom

Oh Freedom!

your name resonates
across the land and seas
like the sound of a thousand bell
pealing from a distant hill

your echoes reverberate
like thunder crossing the skies
in cries too loud to ignore
in shouts too angry to abate

you are so love and adored
with deep devotion and pride
people venerate your name
giving their lives to honor you

Are you what you are supposed to be?
a gift from God to humanity
to use you as they will and choose
to promote and foster a common good

You give humanity a decent face
from their failing human tendencies
that is vile and ruthless and full of hate
making this world an unsafe place

Are you fair and just to everyone?
is your name attached to every man?
regardless of status race and creed
will you be honored with the same respect?

If you are only good for my speech
but have no use to my belief and faith
oh freedom I'd rather not have you in my life
if only half of my rights you meet

My freedom to free speech
is as essential as my freedom of belief
the world needs to understand
that freedom belongs to everyone
